B-52 crashed in Inver Grove Heights in 1958 due to mechanical failure and loss of tail during violent maneuver following a practice bombing run on a local refinery as target. B-52 went supersonic in dive and self destructed and crashed killing all but one crewman and injuring the farmer and family on the ground. The site has been dedicated as a Cold War Memorial and the plaque was set in 1996. The city bought the site and erected the tower and this little park.
